Chum Salmon

Chum Salmon

Chum Salmon

Chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta):

Chum salmon have the widest geographic distribution of the pacific salmon. Most chum salmon spawn in November. Larger than coho and pink salmon, they can be distinguished by the “mottled” or “tiger striping” coloration on their sides. Also, you can tell these fish aren’t coho because they lack red on their sides. Chum fry migrate to sea shortly after hatching. Most chum are between 2-5 years old when they complete their life cycle.
